At Samsung’s Unpacked event where Galaxy Note 8 will be presented, a fresh leak is telling us to also expect an unveiling of a new fitness tracker with very much desired features.
We already know that on 23rd of August, Samsung will be revealing the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 8. However, a new rumor is saying that the phone won’t be the only product taking the stage.
The well-known tech-leaker Evan Blass shares an interesting rumor about an upcoming fitness smartband from the South Korean company. Gear Fit2 Pro is likely to be announced at the Unpacked event on 23rd of August according to Blass. Meanwhile, other sources states August 30th at the IFA 2017 tech expo as the place of announcement, where Samsung usually announce Gear S smartwatch news. We’ll see who’s right!
Annoyingly, it will not be powered by Android. Instead, the smartband will run on Samsung’s Tizen OS while at the same time be compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
Like its predecessor, Fit2, the new display will most probably be a curved super AMOLED. The upcoming Pro version will offer a watch-style clasp which is more secure and “more suitable for vigorous workouts”, while the standard model only had a snap clasp. Now you won’t have to worry about your Fit2 Pro falling off your wrist!
An interesting note is that Samsung with this new fitness tracker also targets the swimmers out there. With a 5ATM water resistance rating it will be fully submersible, allowing you to track your swimming workout with the Speedo On app.
A long-desired feature among fitness trackers is offline support for Spotify which is supposedly coming to Fit2 Pro. If this becomes true, which we really hope, then there’s no need to bring your phone while taking a jog! Moreover, GPS functionality and a 1-year subscription to Under Armour’s premium app are included.
What’s really going to make the Pro model stand out from the crowd of fitness trackers remains to be seen. One suggestion is greatly improved health monitoring options; as Wareable writes, “After launching its bio-processor back in 2015, the sensor-packed chip, capable of monitoring PPG, skin temperature, Galvanic Skin Response and body fat data, could finally be making its way into a wearable”.
Though, no information regarding price and release details were mentioned in the report. We can only imagine that the price will be higher than last iteration but the release date won’t at least be far away.
